Aliya Lavji joined The Institute of Ismaili Studies in 2008 and is currently the Content Editor in the Department of Communications and Development. She manages the news content for the Institute’s website, produces the IIS Update magazine and manages contributions to external publications, whilst also undertaking various other editing projects. From 2008 - 2015, Aliya was the Student Services Officer in the Department of Graduate Studies, where she was responsible for managing the admissions and marketing processes for the Secondary Teacher Education Programme (STEP) in collaboration with the University College London, Institute of Education. In addition, Aliya also coordinated the STEP educational field trips and induction programmes, whilst providing pastoral support to the IIS’ students.
Prior to joining the Institute, Aliya worked as a Content Editor and E-commerce and Media Coordinator within the public sector where she gained extensive experience in publishing and managing external media relations. Aliya has also been actively involved in providing voluntary service within the Ismaili Community, as a Deputy Communications Coordinator within the UK Ismaili Council and serving as the Co-Editor of The Ismaili UK magazine. She is currently a Member of the Ismaili Tariqah and Religious Education Board for the UK.
Aliya has a MA in Communications, Media and Public Relations from the University of Leicester, specialising in developing strategic communication methods and building brand identities. She also holds a BA (Hons) in Tourism and Urban Planning from the University of Westminster.
