Shellina Karmali is the Alumni Relations Coordinator at The Institute of Ismaili Studies. Since 2008, Shellina has been coordinating programmes and activities for all alumni. Previously, between 2000 and 2008, she was responsible for the audio-visual collections at the IIS Library, where Shellina developed a unique collection of CDs relating to music from the Muslim world. Shellina played an important role in organising the Library’s travelling exhibitions throughout North America and Europe during the IIS’ Worlds of Learning campaign. She also assisted with numerous exhibitions and other outreach initiatives relating to the Library’s special collections of manuscripts, artefacts, photographs and rare books, as well as established procedures for preserving audio-visual materials.
Shellina has a B.Ed. from the University of Alberta, Canada, and a degree in photography from Dawson College in Montreal, Canada. Her photographs have been exhibited in London, Toronto and Vancouver, and have been displayed and published in various formats. Prior to 2000, Shellina created costume designs for theatre productions and performances, including those relating to Arabic and Persian literature, such as Attar’s Conference of the Birds.
