IIS Annual Seminar and Lecture

Central Asian Studies Lecture Series

The Central Asian Studies Unit, formally established in 2002, is an ambitious project which seeks to create a knowledge base on Central Asia with a particular emphasis on the history, present realities and the future of the Muslim communities in Central Asia, which in addition to including the former Soviet republics, also includes Afghanistan, Iran, Northern Pakistan, and China. At the same time, the Unit is working towards building research capacity in Central Asia itself. Through various projects, such as the Lecture Series, the Unit attempts to reinforce the idea and the image that diversity and pluralist discourse and interpretation have always been a part of the history of Central Asia’s Muslims.
