Publication Series

Muslim Heritage Series

This series explores vital themes in the civilisations of Islam – including the nature of religious authority, ethics and law, social justice and civil society, the arts and sciences, and the interplay of spiritual and secular lifeworlds. In keeping with the Institute’s mandate, the series is informed by the plurality of communities and interpretations of Islam, as well as their locus in modernity and tradition.

Epistles of the Brethren of Purity Series

The Epistles of the Brethren of Purity is published by Oxford University Press in association with the Institute of Ismaili Studies, London. This bilingual series consists of a multi-authored Arabic critical edition and annotated English translation of the Rasa’il Ikhwan al-Safa’ (ca. tenth-century Iraq).

Ismaili Heritage Series

The Ismaili Heritage Series aims to make available to wide audiences the results of modern scholarship on the Ismailis and their rich intellectual and cultural heritage as well as certain aspects of their more recent history and achievements. The titles published so far in this series include:

Ismaili Texts and Translations Series

Recent advances in Ismaili studies have been initiated by the recovery of Ismaili texts. A large number of such texts, written in Arabic, Persian and Indic languages, are preserved in the collections of The Institute of Ismaili Studies Library. The Ismaili Texts and Translations Series aims to produce critical editions together with English translations and contextualising introductions, which are essential for further progress in the field. This series was launched in 2000 and so far includes the following titles:

Qur'anic Studies Series

The Institute, through the Qur'anic Studies Unit, publishes the Qur’anic Studies Series in association with Oxford University Press. The Holy Qur’an has been an inexhaustible source of intellectual and spiritual reflection throughout Islamic history, giving rise to ever-proliferating commentaries and interpretations. Many of these have remained accessible only to specialists due to their intellectually demanding nature. Others, more widely read, remain un-translated from the primary language of their composition. This series aims to make some of these materials from a broad chronological range available to a wider readership through translation and publication in English.
