| IIS Alumni Meet & Greet February 2012 On 22nd January 2012, the European Chapter Group hosted its annual Meet & Greet event for alumni and current students of both IIS and AKU-ISMC at the Ismaili Centre, London. The event was attended by 24 alumni and 50 students and the aim was for alumni and students to get to know one another and to share their experiences. |
After registration, participants and guests enjoyed a light lunch in an informal setting which allowed for alumni and students to meet each other and share experiences. The session started with a ‘Welcome Address’ by Sadruddin Fattoum, ECG President, followed by speakers from Jamati Institution. Amyn Mawji, the President of the National Council, shared the vision of the institutions and its holistic approaches to the needs of the Jamat. Shehnaaz Latif, Chairperson of the Education Board and Liaqat Hasham, Chairperson of the Economic Planning Board gave an insight into their respective portfolios. All speakers highlighted opportunities for alumni and students to serve the Jamat and invited them to play an active role within the institutions.
The afternoon continued with a talk by Dr Otambek Mastibekov on ‘The Role of school of Devotional Poetry’ (Maktabi Madhiyakhoni). Participants had an opportunity to listen to a talk by Dr Reza Shah-Kazemi on his new publication, “Spiritual Quest” which was most inspirational. The Meet and Greet event concluded with a collage consisting of excerpts from Ismaili devotional literature from around the world. Participants enjoyed listening to traditional and devotional music from Central Asia, Iran, Syria and the Sub-continent. |
