This four-day course is intended to attract participants involved in managing community libraries to explore, in an engaging environment, some of the key concepts and practices within the discipline of library and heritage management. The course participants will learn about the existing libraries within the community, strategic planning for existing and new libraries, as well as collection development and its related practices in management and organisation, including cataloguing. Delivered by professional and experienced librarians from the Aga Khan Library, the course will will provide a hands-on opportunity to integrate theoretical concepts with practical considerations of managing a library in a communal volunteer-led context. Participants will also learn about modern trends in library management include an orientation on e-book platforms and relevant digital applications to library, digital resources, information service delivery and collection management.
