‘The rightly guiding mission,’ an expression used by the early Shi‘a and earliest Ismailis, who felt that the caliphate had been wrongfully taken from the ʿAlids. The movement began to be particularly successful around the middle of the 3rd/9th century when a multitude of Ismaili dāʿīs began their activities in Iraq, Persia, eastern Arabia and Yemen.
