At the invitation of the South Asian Studies Unit at the IIS, Dr Farooq Beg, the renowned film producer (Serendip Productions), visited the Aga Khan Centre on 15 November 2024. Unit Head Hussain Jasani hosted Dr Beg, provided a tour of the Aga Khan Centre, and discussed potential opportunities for collaboration.

The primary purpose of the meeting was to discuss the possible premiere of the Huma and Farooq Beg-produced biopic on Mr Shoaib Sultan Khan, 'A Drop that Made the Ocean'. Mr Shoaib Sultan Khan worked with the Government of Pakistan before moving to serve on the Aga Khan Foundation, UNICEF and UNDP. He established the Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP) Pakistan in 1982. In addition to establishing Rural Support Initiatives in various parts of Pakistan, he is also credited with establishing similar initiatives in other South Asian countries including Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka. Some IIS alumni have been involved in these projects.
