Mr Ahmed Versi, founder and editor of The Muslim News, met with the Director and senior management of IIS on 25th July at the Aga Khan Centre. During the wide-ranging discussions, several opportunities for collaboration were explored.

Established in 1989, The Muslim News has become the largest circulating Muslim newspaper reaching over 150,000 people of diverse ethnic communities. In 2000, Mr Versi also launched the Muslim News Awards for Excellence, an annual awards ceremony celebrating Muslim achievements in the United Kingdom. Mr Versi was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Arts by the University of Bedfordshire in 2007, in recognition of his achievements as editor of The Muslim News and his being ranked among the 20 most influential Asians in the British media. Last year in July, he also received the Freedom of the City of London certificate.

These preliminary discussions are one of many steps IIS is taking to connect with local Muslim educational and communication initiatives. Through such collaboration, we hope to create greater awareness of our endeavours and leverage mutual strengths to achieve our shared goals and live out our shared values.
