The IIS is pleased to announce that applications are now open for its Dissertation Writing Scholarship. The deadline to apply is 30 September 2024 

The Institute welcomes applications from graduate students in the field of Islamic studies who are researching topics related to IIS’s core research areas. The scholarship carries a stipend of £3,000 (or local equivalent) and has been established to assist promising graduate research students and doctoral candidates to complete their fieldwork or dissertation. 

Special attention will be given to topics related to IIS’s core research areas including Ismaili studies, Shiʿi studies, Qurʾanic studies, education, and manuscript studies.

  • Cover letter and CV 
  • Dissertation description (including abstract, table of contents, and detailed chapter-by-chapter descriptions, as well as progress to date, and expected date of completion) 
  • Writing sample (preferably a chapter) 
  • Letter from doctoral supervisor 
  • Two academic references
