The Class of 2008 spent four weeks in Damascus this summer completing an Arabic immersion program, an integral part of the Institute’s Graduate Program in Islamic Studies and Humanities. The course provided an important opportunity to put to practical use the Arabic language skills gained by students in their first year.
Students from the IIS’ Graduate Programme in Islamic Studies and Humanities (GPISH), Class of 2012, went on educational trips to Egypt and Syria during the summer. These visits provided the students with an opportunity to better understand the past and present dynamism of Muslim societies, including the Ismailis, in these regions.
GPISH prepares graduates to pursue a PhD in Islamic studies and related areas of the humanities and social sciences
Third-year students on the Graduate Programme in Islamic Studies and Humanities (GPISH) have presented their field research papers to an audience of academics, students and staff.
This course is designed to explore different understandings of the notion of culture: both as ways of life and as the products of intellectual and artistic creativity, and why they need to be nurtured, renewed and passed on to future generations.
