A fourth volume in the bilingual Epistles of the Brethren of Purity (Rasa’il Ikhwan al-Safa’) series, a joint venture between the IIS and Oxford University Press (OUP) is now available.
This scholarly presentation of the text, Arabic critical edition and annotated English translation with its detailed introduction and footnotes, with a foreword by Nader El-Bizri, will make for fascinating reading for anyone interested in the shared history of philosophy, alchemy, and science.
Another publication was released by the IIS in October: On Logic: An Arabic Critical Edition and English Translation of Epistles 10-14, edited and translated by Professor Carmela Baffioni. This is the second volume of primary text from the Epistles of the Brethren of Purity (Rasa’il Ikhwan al-Safa’).
Professor Carmela Baffioni has joined The Institute of Ismaili Studies as a Senior Research Fellow, primarily to work on the Epistles of the Brethren of Purity publication series.
"The Department of Academic Research and Publications at the IIS is a unique place; I believe that in this department we can do wonderful things in the future by pushing ourselves to achieve even higher academic levels of scholarship. The better we manage our research, the better we will be able to promote knowledge. During my student years I was supported by the IIS and to be able to contribute back in the area of academic research, is a dream come true”- Dr Omar Alí-de-Unzaga.
Drs Omar Alí-de-Unzaga, Stephen Burge and Nuha al-Sha‘ar of the Qur’anic Studies Unit presented a panel entitled Citations of the Qur’anin Islamic Literature at the Inaugural Conference of the British Association for Islamic Studies (BRAIS)in Edinburgh.
